Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson wants no let-up from the promotion-chasing Whites.
Pontus Jansson has told Leeds Live that Leeds United can’t afford to get complacent this season.
Leeds are strong favourites to win Premier League promotion in what has been an excellent first season under renowned coach Marcelo Bielsa so far.
Before the latest matchday, the Whites sat top of the Championship and boasted a six-point cushion in the automatic promotion spots.
But Jansson has seen how quickly good teams can get derailed in this division.
The Swede, a £4.5 million permanent signing in the summer of 2017 [Yorkshire Evening Post], spent the 2016-17 campaign on loan at Elland Road, when United, then under Garry Monk, only won one of their last eight games to completely ruin their hopes of finishing in the playoff spots.
It was a similar case last season, as Leeds finished 13th in the Championship despite rip-roaring start to the campaign under Thomas Christiansen, who was sacked in February and replaced by Paul Heckingbottom.
Bielsa’s side, who have won their last five league games, can move one step closer to the top flight by beating Aston Villa at Villa Park tomorrow, and Jansson demands that there be no let-up from his team-mates in a famously unpredictable league.
“My first year, I saw the good side of Leeds and last year I saw the bad side of Leeds,” he told Leeds Live.
“Now, when we win games it is nice but I also know how quickly it can change and we have to be clever.”
