Gaetano Berardi gave a refreshingly honest interview over his Leeds form on Wednesday.
Pontus Jansson has described Leeds United teammate Gaetano Berardi as “a real lion” on his Twitter account after Berardi gave a refreshingly honest interview to the Yorkshire Evening Post on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old admitted to Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay that Leeds needed a better left-back than him, with the one-time Switzerland international more suited to playing on the right side of the defence.
“It’s not my normal position but like every year I try to do my best – every week and every session,” Berardi said. “I know probably this team needs a better player than me but I just want to play and do my best every Saturday.”
However, he is likely to remain first choice in the side above Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Vurnon Anita and versatile left-winger Stuart Dallas, as his fiery passion continues to endear him to the Leeds fans.
Sweden international Jansson responded to Berardi’s honest comments on Twitter, posting a heartfelt message that stated “un vero leone” or in English, “a real lion” as well as telling fans that “you can’t find a person like” Berardi.
Berardi, who joined Leeds from Serie A side Sampdoria back in the summer of 2014 during former owner Massimo Cellino’s first season in charge, has been criticised for a bout of poor form of late.
However, he could remain in Thomas Christiansen’s starting line-up as the Whites go up against Hull City on Saturday afternoon at Elland Road.
Three points can take the Whites into the Championship play-off places, with Sheffield United and Aston Villa play eachother as they both sit on 37 points and one point ahead of Leeds in fifth and sixth.
