Leeds United and Aston Villa met in an ill-tempered affair back in April at Elland Road.

Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has revealed to the Yorkshire Evening Post that he apologised to John Terry during Aston Villa’s recent controversial game at Elland Road.

Leeds and Villa played out a 1-1 draw last month which will live long in the memory for all the wrong reasons.

When Mateusz Klich scored for Leeds he did so at the time when Jonathan Kodjia was down injured.

Leeds had appeared to be set to put the ball out, causing Villa’s players to stop playing, before Klich went through on goal and scored.

It caused a huge scuffle between both teams, and Jansson initially tried to calm things down.

The Leeds centre-back went over to Villa assistant Terry and manager Dean Smith to apologise.

However, when Leeds instructed him to concede and let Villa score, Jansson played on.

And the competitive defender said: “It was a funny situation because when we scored there was a big argument and I wasn’t there because I’d walked over the bench to (John) Terry and Dean Smith to say sorry. The first thing they said to me was ‘now you have to let us score’.

“I said ‘I can’t. That’s not me, I’m sorry but I can’t.’ One minute later I had to do it but when it happened in my head I was like ‘I can’t let them score.’ There was so much going on in those five or six minutes.

“Afterwards, of course I should have let them score.”

Leeds could yet meet Villa again this season, if both sides win their play off semi finals.

Leeds face Derby County at the weekend, while Villa take on West Bromwich Albion.
