Monk recently resigned from his managerial role at Leeds despite almost guiding the Whites to a top-six finish in the Championship this season.
The former Swansea City boss was appointed the West Yorkshire outfit’s manager in the summer of 2016.
The 38-year-old former central defender did a great job at Elland Road, as under him the team almost ended up in the Championship playoffs.
Jansson played a key role in Leeds’s success this season, and the 26-year-old centre-back has revealed his shock at getting the news of Monk’s departure.
“I liked Garry enormously,” Jansson told Fotbollskanalen.se, as translated by Vital Football.
“It came right shocking to me if I’ll be honest. It was my girlfriend who called me yesterday and said, when I did not even know what had happened.
“He’s been awesome, really nice person, good football coach. He’s meant a lot to many, not just for me.
“Very appreciated by the players, the fans, the club, everyone and everything, so I have no idea why it was that it was.”
Monk was very popular among the Leeds players, and his departure must have come as a shock to the team.
What is important for the Championship club is to appoint a suitable successor to Monk and allow him to make the signings needed to make the team competitive for yet another top-six quest.
