There was no spectacular celebration for Pontus Jansson this weekend as his Leeds United suffered a home defeat to Newcastle United.

The centre-back was part of a defence breached twice by Dwight Gayle in a 2-0 win for the league leaders.

After the match Jansson sent a message to Leeds supporters, stating that the team need to return much better in their next game.

The message was seen by none other than the club’s potential buyer Andrea Radrizzani, who ‘liked’ the post on his Twitter feed.

Italian website Calciomercato report Radrizzani is in talks to buy Leeds United, and he certainly seems to continue to show interest in the team’s on pitch fortunes.

For their next league match, Leeds will be without Jansson, who picked up a fifth yellow card of the season and a subsequent suspension.

The game is against strugglers Rotherham United, a game which Leeds should fancy themselves to win even without their talisman, if they are serious about having play-off aspirations.

Despite the loss, Leeds have only fallen one position, into seventh place, just one point back from sixth. Next week’s opponents Rotherham are in 24th place, with just seven points collected all season.

Newcastle continue to run away with the league, five points clear already after 17 games, and on the evidence of Sunday’s game, will not be easy to stop.
