Jansson has been banned for Leeds’ clash against Ipswich Town.
Pontus Jansson has called on Leeds United teammates to beat Ipswich Town for his newborn daughter Bella, posting the heartfelt message on his Instagram story.
The 27-year-old defender had been flying back from Sweden, where his wife gave birth the Bella, in order to feature for Leeds against Ipswich. However, his post-match comments against Brentford have finally come back to bite him.
The Sweden international was caught swearing live on Sky Sports, as well as launching an attack on the referee Jeremy Simpson. The FA have given him a one-match ban, which was issued while Jansson was travelling.
Posting in reaction to the news, former Torino and Malmo defender Jansson called on his teammates to beat Paul Hurst’s struggling Ipswich at Elland Road on Wednesday night, and do it for his newborn Bella.
Jansson has been in superb form this season after winning his place in the side back from Gaetano Berardi, after he was rested during the early part of the season following his exploits with Sweden at the World Cup.
Making 12 appearances in all competitions, Jansson has helped Leeds keep five clean sheets and concede just 10 goals. He will be available for selection on Saturday, when the Whites play host to Nottingham Forest in an evening kick-off.
