Kalvin Phillips was sent off during Leeds United’s defeat on New Year’s Day, and quickly sent an apology on social media.

Pontus Jansson has sent an emotional message to Leeds teammate Kalvin Phillips on Twitter after the midfielder apologised on social media for his red card during the Whites’ New Year’s Day defeat.
Phillips was given his marching orders during the first-half after a poor challenge as Leeds chased an equaliser against Nottingham Forest.
It appeared that Marcelo Bielsa’s men were going to respond superbly to the dismissal as they then scored twice during the early stages of the second-half, with Jack Clarke and Gjanni Alioski finding the back of the net.
But the gaps in Leeds’ defence were exposed and Forest then went on to score three times in quick succession to take a 4-2 lead that they would hold onto.

Some Leeds fans would be forgiven for feeling that Phillips’ dismissal proved to be a key moment in the game. While the visitors got themselves back in front following the red card, Forest were ultimately able to capitalise on their numerical advantage.
And Phillips seemed to take a large portion of responsibility for the loss by sending an apology on social media soon after the final whistle. But Jansson responded soon after.

The defender – who was surely Leeds’ best player amongst the back five – told Phillips that he had nothing to apologise for given what he has done throughout the campaign. Phillips has certainly been a fantastic performer this term, and Jansson’s response probably summed up how a lot of supporters felt.
