Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has told Leeds Live that Paudie O’Connor looks like him when he was young.

Jansson, who initially joined Leeds on loan from Italian club Torino in the summer of 2016 before making the move permanent in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post to be worth £3.5 million, has spoken highly of the 20-year-old central defender.

The 27-year-old Sweden international centre-back, who is hugely popular among the Elland Road faithful, has also stated that he will help the youngster if they play together on Saturday afternoon.

Leeds will take on Sunderland at Elland Road in the Championship in a few hours’ time.

O’Connor could feature for the West Yorkshire outfit against the Black Cats due to the team’s defensive issues at the back.

Jansson told Leeds Live when asked for his opinion on O’Connor: “Really good to be honest. I’ve seen him train a couple of times, he’s good with us, I’ve also seen him also in one Under-23 game so I try to scout the players.

“But he is good, he has confidence, looked like me when I was young, want to take risks with the ball which is good, but also is clever, strong, fast, so he can be a good defender.

“So if I play with him on Saturday, I will take my responsibility and help him and try to make him have a good game.”

Encouraging for Leeds United fans

Jansson seems to rate O’Connor highly, and Leeds fans should be encouraged by the Swede’s aforementioned comments.

O’Connor is a young and promising centre-back, and it seems that he has a lot of quality and could become an important player for the club in the coming years.
