Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has admitted to BBC Radio Leeds that it is tough for him to play regularly for the Sweden national football team.

Jansson, who joined Leeds on a season-long loan deal from Italian club Torino in the summer transfer window, has been called up to the recent Sweden squad.

Janne Andersson’s side will face Luxembourg and Bulgaria in 2018 World Cup qualifiers this month.

The 25-year-old central defender has admitted that it is tough for him to break into the Sweden national team’s starting lineup due to the competition for places.

“We have three good defenders for two positions, so it’s tough (circumstances),” Jansson told BBC Radio Leeds.

“But it’s up to me to just keep going. I believe a lot in me, so just keep going, then I think it’s going to be good.”

Jansson has been in good form for Leeds so far this season and has established himself as a key player in Garry Monk’s team.

The centre-back may not be an automatic starter for Sweden in their upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifiers this month, but if he continues to play well for the Championship club this season, then he will certainly make himself more important and valuable to his national team.

Sweden are third in Group A with a point from one match.
