Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has suggested to The Yorkshire Evening Post that he wants a long-term stay at the club.
Jansson joined Leeds on a season-long loan deal from Italian outfit Torino in the summer transfer window.
The Sweden international centre-back has been a hit at Elland Road and has established himself as an important player in Garry Monk’s team.
The 25-year-old has suggested that he wants to remain at Leeds beyond next summer.
The former Malmo FF defender has also outlined his ambition to guide the Whites back to the Premier League.
Leeds have not featured in the top flight of English football since 2004 and are playing in the Championship at the moment.
“I’m not here to just play games,” Jansson told The Yorkshire Evening Post. “I am here to take Leeds into the play-offs and the Premier League. That is my reason for being here. That is what we are searching for.”
“I like English football very much,” added the defender. “There are a lot of duels and a lot of tough games. This is my type of game. The two years I had in Italy were very important.
“They were really good because they helped me learn tactics and stuff like that. But now I’m thinking I have to stay in England.”
“Football is more and more like a business, but you also have to go on the pitch and have fun,” Jansson told The Yorkshire Post. “That is important and why it is great to have a relationship with the fans.”
In recent years, Leeds have become also-rans in the Championship, but the 2016-17 campaign could be different.
The Whites are 11th in the league table at the moment with 16 points from 11 matches.
The West Yorkshire outfit are four points behind Birmingham City, who are currently sixth in the standings and occupy the final playoff spot.
