Pontus Jansson wants to win the Championship title with Leeds United this coming season.

Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that he wants to win the Championship title next season.

The West Yorkshire outfit narrowly failed to finish in the top six of the Championship last season and will be aiming to end up in the playoffs during the 2017-18 campaign.

Jansson, who is 26 years of and plays as a centre-back, has stated that he wants to win the league title with the Whites next season and win automatic promotion to the Premier League.

“I’m here to win the Championship,” Jansson told The Yorkshire Evening Post. “I hope the others have the same goal as me.

“Last season was a good season. Leeds have been in trouble for the last 10 years and haven’t been in a stable position. We played good football and won the fans back.”

Can Leeds United win the Championship?

While one cannot but help admire the ambition and confidence of Jansson, it is hard to envisage Leeds winning the Championship title next season, or even finishing in the top two.

Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday are just some of the sides who will have an eye on the automatic promotion places.

The Whites should target a finish in the top six. If results are strong and their rivals start slipping up, then, of course, Thomas Christiansen’s side should launch a challenge for the automatic places, but for now, the target should be to clinch a playoff spot.
