Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has told Fotboll Skanalen in his native Sweden that he is hoping to be fit to face Cardiff City on Tuesday night.
Leeds got back to winning ways in the Championship on Saturday afternoon, claiming a 3-2 home win over Ipswich Town thanks to goals from Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Kalvin Phillips and a Bartosz Bialkowski own goal.
The Whites subsequently still sit top of the Championship table, and now head into a huge clash against second-placed Cardiff City on Tuesday.
Manager Thomas Christiansen was without defender Pontus Jansson for Saturday’s game, but his return would be a huge boost to Leeds’ hopes of claiming all three points.
Jansson, 26, has carried on from where he left off last season with some impressive displays this term, helping Leeds boast one of the best defensive records in the league.
His absence was felt on Saturday afternoon though, and he will now be hoping to replace one of Liam Cooper or Conor Shaughnessy in the line-up for Tuesday’s clash with Cardiff.
Now, Jansson has told Fotboll Skanalen in Sweden that it was fun to see Leeds win again this weekend, before admitting that he had a thigh injury that could have been made even worse if he had played on Saturday.
Jansson added that he has been in training and can probably play against Cardiff, as there is less risk of his thigh injury worsening on Tuesday.
“It’s fun they won again and we’ve really started well,” said Jansson. “I had bleeding in the thigh so I could have been out for a long time. There is less risk on Tuesday, probably I can play then. I hope so. It was the medical team who judged that it was better not to play.”
“I was training today and will work out tomorrow. It has felt better and better every day since the Millwall match,” he added.
