Leeds United’s Championship form in 2018 has been terrible.
Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he feels ‘ashamed’ of the club’s form have won just once in 2018.
The Whites have been through an action-packed 2018 already, having brought in Laurens De Bock, Adam Forshaw and Tyler Roberts in January, before making another managerial change.
Thomas Christiansen lost his job after less than a year in the role, with Barnsley’s Paul Heckingbottom being lured to Elland Road as his replacement last month – but it hasn’t done much to change Leeds’ fortunes.
Despite coming from 1-0 down to lead 2-1 at struggling Reading, Leeds could only draw 2-2 on Saturday afternoon, meaning their torrid run of form has continued.
Leeds have now won just once in the last 13 Championship games, losing seven of those games as their play-off hopes have gone up in smoke since the turn of the year.
The Whites may now already be thinking about next season, but defender Pontus Jansson has offered his frank and honest view on the club’s current situation.
Swedish international Jansson has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he feels ‘ashamed’ of Leeds’ form in 2018, suggesting it’s difficult to put into words how bad he feels about the poor results.
Jansson added that he is a winner and wants to win games, noting that the current form is ‘not good enough’ and must change, whether that’s in the final weeks of this season or into next term.
“At the moment I feel ashamed,” said Jansson. “In 2018 we have one win and I am born to be a winner and win games. That’s what I live for, that’s why I play football, because I want to win games and we have one win in 2018 so I feel bad. It’s difficult to put words on it. I came to the club last year and I had a good season and this season has also been good, but now we have won once in 10 or 15 games and that’s not good enough.”
