Pontus Jansson was supposed to be on international duty with Sweden, but the injury he suffered against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend means that he will remain at Leeds United.
Jansson sustained a shoulder injury during the Championship game against Wednesday away from home at the Hillsborough Stadium.
The 26-year-old centre-back is doubtful for the Championship match against Reading at Elland Road after the international break, according to Get Reading.
The former Torino man is one of the best central defenders in the Championship, and him unfortunately missing Sweden’s matches against Luxembourg and the Netherlands is actually good for Leeds.
Jansson could have picked injuries while playing for his country during the international break, and that would have meant that he could have missed league fixtures for Leeds.
The injury he suffered against Wednesday means that the 26-year-old will have two full weeks to recover.
Even if the former Malmo FF star misses the game against Reading, him being available for the rest of the fixtures in October is only going to enhance Leeds’s chances of winning them.
Jansson joined Leeds on a season-long loan deal from Torino in the summer of 2016 and made the move permanent in the summer of 2017.
Championship club Leeds had to pay Italian outfit Torino a transfer fee of £3.5 million in order secure the services of the Sweden international centre-back, as reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post.
