Leeds United got back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon as they beat Bristol City 2-0 at Elland Road – but it took them a while to break the Robins down.
Leeds were hammered 4-1 by West Bromwich Albion before the international break, and were in need of a response upon their return on Saturday afternoon.
Boss Marcelo Bielsa was forced into making two big changes as Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Pontus Jansson were both ruled out, forcing youngsters Will Huffer and Aapo Halme to make their debuts – but it was two more well-known Leeds players who grabbed the win.
It looked like being a frustrating afternoon for Leeds, but they took full advantage of Robins midfielder Josh Brownhill being sent off for two bookable offences in the second half.
Forward Kemar Roofe then struck the opener for Leeds on 69 minutes, and Pablo Hernandez added a second late on to give Leeds a 2-0 victory and go back above West Bromwich Albion into third place.
It was a positive day for the Whites, whose players paid tribute to goalkeeper Jamal Blackman, revealing a shirt wishing him the best of luck in his recovery from a loan-ending injury.
Tyler Roberts and Liam Cooper celebrated the win, whilst Pontus Jansson was loving a chant from Leeds fans about Mateusz Klich, set to Rotterdam (Or Anywhere) by The Beautiful South, admitting that he couldn’t get it out of his head.
