Leeds United defender’s disciplinary record is finally improving.

Leeds defender Pontus Jansson appears to be back to his best, but this is a very different version of the Swede.
Jansson is in his third season at Leeds and this is a campaign in which his discipline has been dramatically improved.
His first season at Leeds saw Jansson pick up 14 yellow cards.
He pledged to improve in 2017. “It’s not good,” Jansson told The Yorkshire Evening Post. “It’s something I have to work on this year, to not take that many yellow cards.
“If it’s an important yellow card, when you have to stop a player and take one, then fine but not for arguing with the referee and other things like that.”
Jansson did improve, but only marginally. He went from 14 bookings in 2016/17 to 13 yellow cards in 2017/18.

This season he appears to finally be on track to solve the issue.
He has only two yellow cards this season, and is on pace to finish the season with under 10.
This is important as it can save him picking up suspensions for cumulative bookings, which Leeds’ stretched defence cannot presently afford.
It is tribute to both Jansson, and the coaching of Marcelo Bielsa.
Leeds’ focus on possession football has helped the team gain greater control of matches and means Jansson is not frequently put in position to give away cheap fouls.
