Pontus Jansson has told Swedish outlet Fotboll Skanalen that he has spoken to former Leeds boss Garry Monk since his shock exit last month.

The 38-year-old resigned from his role as Leeds manager in a surprising move which stunned the Championship.

It was reported by The Telegraph that Monk – whose contract was set to expire this month – was unhappy with his contractual situation, though new owner Andrea Radrizzani claimed on Twitter that a three-year deal was offered to the former Swansea City boss.

Radrizzani had only taken full control of the club a matter of days before Monk’s exit and it remains to be seen exactly why the young coach – who led the Whites to a seventh-placed Championship finish last term, narrowly missing the playoffs – packed the job in.

Nevertheless, Jansson, signed on a season-long loan by Monk last summer, says that he has since spoken to his former manager and indeed the club’s new hierarchy, but refused to divulge any information on those conversations.

The Swedish centre-back did, however, reveal that he was excited by Radrizzani’s project at Elland Road, and suggested that Monk’s exit will not de-stablise the club in any way.

“The impression I have received from the new owners, and I’ve talked to the Director of Football and club director, and for me it feels like the stability is starting to come now,” he told Fotboll Skanalen.

“The situation with Monk might look messy after changing manager again, but I don’t see it that way. I think it will be neat and tidy now – a new and exciting project which will have sufficient investment.

“I have talked to Monk a little bit and heard his situation, and I have spoken to the owners and heard their version. It stays between us, but I hope Leeds can continue now. It [the club] has changed tremendously over the year that I’ve been there.”
