The Swede has become an instant cult icon at Leeds United.

Leeds United centre-back Pontus Jansson has spoken about his relationship with parent club Torino this week, and his hopes to become a permanent Leeds player as soon as possible.

Leeds snapped up the Swede on loan from Torino this summer in a deal that spelled the end of Sol Bamba’s career at Elland Road.

He has certainly been a hit at Leeds. His form has been integral to their rise back up the Premier League table and Leeds fans are loving the performances and personality of the central defender.

He joined the club after struggling to get regular football at Torino and after being told by their new boss Sinisa Mihajlovic that he did not feature in the first-team plans.

Speaking about that issue to Fotbollskanalen this week the Swedish defender commented:

“It was boring but I’ve tried to put it behind me. We changed coaches and systems. My contract situation was wrong, it was out of time, and finally pulled the club back there. Then I got angry and asked all to go to hell. Then it was as it was and two days later I was in Leeds.

“But now I have put everything behind me and the people I talk in Torino, I have a good relationship with. The only person I have not talked to is the coach.”

He also made it clear his intention to remain at Leeds permanently:

“I’ve had a good start. Matches all the time, things are going well and we are winning.

“The most important thing is that we have won five of six games and then it has gone well for me has been a bonus. It’s very fun.

“Hopefully it will be a purchase soon. The clubs are in (form) now. It’s fun.”

Leeds fans will struggle to understand why any manager would not want to have Jansson in their squad – given his excellent performances so far this campaign.

But Torino’s loss is certainly proving to be Leeds United’s gain.
