Pontus Jansson has seemingly quashed speculation surrounding his Leeds United future for this summer.
In comments reported by Expressen, Pontus Jansson has reiterated that playing for Leeds in the Premier League is his ultimate goal and added that he is extremely excited to start working under Marcelo Bielsa – seemingly putting pay to any talk that he will be looking to leave Elland Road this summer.
Jansson is currently yet to return for pre-season with the Championship side having played a part in helping Sweden reach the quarter-final of the World Cup.
And for some, they may have doubted whether the centre-back would appear in a Leeds shirt again. Jansson recently hinted to Expressen that he wanted to see the club show ambition before making a decision on his future, while Expressen have also suggested that West Brom are interested in reuniting the former Torino ace with ex-Whites loanee Kyle Bartley.
But based on the 27-year-old’s latest comments, it would appear that Jansson has absolutely no desire to seek a move away from Leeds this summer with Bielsa now at the helm.
“Just for that reason, it feels even better to be in Leeds. I think he will benefit my personal development. As a team, Leeds needs a hard coach, I myself have had coaches of that kind in Italy. It’s a completely different mentality that I really like,” he went on to add discussing Bielsa’s appointment.
It will certainly be a huge boost for Leeds if they can get Jansson back to his best ahead of the coming campaign. On his day, there appears to be few better defenders in the Championship, and his attitude really has the potential to get the best out of those around him.
And with Leeds struggling to get new signings through the Elland Road door right now, making sure that Jansson stays will be a tremendous way for the Whites to start building some momentum ahead of what the fans will hope will be a busy end to the window.
