Pontus Jansson has spoken to LUTV about Ronaldo Vieira’s winner in Leeds United’s 3-2 victory at Norwich City on Saturday.
The 18-year-old midfielder fizzed a fine long-range strike past goalkeeper Michael McGovern in the dying stages as Leeds snatched three points and a spot in the top six in the process.
Jansson had earlier scored United’s first goal to cancel out Robbie Brady’s first-half opener, before Chris Wood fired the visitors ahead on 74 minutes.
With two minutes to go, Kyle Lafferty equalised as both sides looked set to win a point apiece, but Vieira’s super winner denied the Canaries yesterday.
But the big Swedish centre-back claims that he was on-hand to score, even if McGovern had beaten away Vieira’s late effort.
Asked if he taught Vieira how to strike the ball like that, Jansson told LUTV: “No, no. I told him just now in the showers that I was ready for the rebound. I was close, but no I can give it to him.”
Indeed, the Whites now sit in the playoff places and it marks a brilliant turnaround in fortunes for Leeds, who won one of their first six Championship games under Garry Monk.
They have two weeks to now prepare for the visit of league leaders Newcastle United, who bring a seven-match winning streak to Elland Road in a fortnight.
