Pontus Jansson comments on his Leeds United future

Pontus Jansson has been linked with a move away from Leeds United in the summer transfer window.

Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has suggested to Sydsvenskan that he will make a decision on his future after the World Cup.

The Leeds central defender is part of the Sweden squad that will feature at the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia this summer, and he has suggested that he will carry on at Elland Road.

“I’m fine even if it was a boring second half of the season in Leeds,” the 27-year-old told Sydsvenskan. “I have an important role in the club.

“I have matured as a player and as a human being. We’ll see where everything ends after the World Cup. This can be a continuation.”

Leeds United favourite

Jansson initially joined Leeds on loan from Italian club Torino in the summer of 2016 before making the move permanent in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post to be worth £3.5 million.

The Sweden international has established himself as a firm fan favourite and is hugely popular among the Elland Road faithful.

Jansson is one of the best defenders in the Championship, and although the 27-year-old centre-back’s performances this season were not exactly great, he remains an important player for Leeds.

According to a report in TEAMtalk in April, Premier League club West Ham United are interested in signing the former Malmo FF star, who is claimed to likely command a transfer fee of around £12m.
