Bristol City's Aden Flint misses a opportunity to score v Leeds

Leeds United climbed up to 11th in the Championship table with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Barnsley at Elland Road on Saturday.

The Whites, slightly deflated after a midweek defeat at Bristol City which ended a four-match winning streak, bounced back with a compotent, resolute display in Yorkshire.

Kyle Bartley opened the scoring on 36 minutes to give Leeds a 1-0 half-time lead, before Pablo Hernandez doubled United’s lead early in the second period.

But it was a nervy final 20 minutes or so when Charlie Taylor’s own goal offered Barnsley a route back into the contest, though a solid defensive display kept the visitors at bay for the remainder of a close contest yesterday.

Leeds were given a big boost before the match even kicked off following the news of Pontus Jansson’s inclusion in Garry Monk’s first XI.

And the hugely popular Swede was one of several Leeds players who took to Twitter to share their views of the match.

Monk will be delighted. The defeat at Bristol could’ve very easily been the starting point for another poor run of results, but Leeds’ character to ensure it was a mere blip spoke volumes for the side’s collective belief at the moment.
