Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has revealed to Leeds Live that he isn’t that close with boss Marcelo Bielsa, and was closer to predecessors Garry Monk and Paul Heckingbottom.
The Whites have been excelling under Bielsa this season, with Jansson a key part of the Leeds back line once again.
The Swede has made 24 league appearances this term, and will be hoping to help Leeds win promotion back to the Premier League come May.
Jansson is working under his fourth manager at Elland Road in Bielsa, and the Argentine has so far been much more successful than Monk, Heckingbottom or Thomas Christiansen.
‘El Loco’ has dazzled many with his first season in English football, bringing his high-octane football to Elland Road with impressive results.
Now, Jansson has been asked about his relationship with Bielsa, and he has admitted that he respects Bielsa a lot, but they aren’t too close.
Jansson puts this down to Bielsa living for football maybe more than the personal relationships inside the game, with Jansson adding that he felt closer to Monk or even Heckingbottom, which isn’t necessarily a negative, just a different dynamic.
“Not that close, was closer to Garry Monk and Paul Heckingbottom,” said Jansson. “It’s always football with Marcelo, it’s all he lives for,” he added.
