Players from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa all received a significant portion of the vote in our poll.
HITC Sport recently began a poll asking Championship supporters who has been the best performing summer signing of the season so far. And the results are in, with players from Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Wolves amongst those who received a significant portion of the vote.
So with that in mind, here is a look at the top five…
5th- Barrie McKay (Nottingham Forest) 4%
In fifth place on our poll was Forest winger Barrie McKay. The young Scotsman has taken little time to adapt to the Championship and start giving full-backs headaches. He has scored twice and contributed four assists in the league. He is however, not the best-performing Nottingham Forest player in this poll.
4th- John Terry (Aston Villa) 13%
John Terry grabbed fourth spot after an impressive start to life with Aston Villa that has arguably proven that he has not joined the Villans to start winding down. Villa have kept five clean sheets in their last six Championship fixtures and Terry has featured for every minute of that recent run.
3rd- Daryl Murphy (Nottingham Forest) 15%
Six goals in 11 Championship games is a fantastic return for Daryl Murphy since his move to Nottingham Forest from Newcastle. Mark Warburton will know that if Forest are going to replicate the Magpies’ achievement from last season and get themselves in the promotion picture, Murphy’s form could be vital.
2nd- Samuel Saiz (Leeds United) 19%
The second-best performing summer signing in the Championship is Leeds’ Samuel Saiz. The Whites playmaker has looked excellent on the ball, seemingly capable of dancing past defenders. The Whites look considerably more dangerous when he is in their ranks and the Elland Road faithful have certainly taken no time to take to him.
1st- Diogo Jota (Wolves) 40%
Pulling in a staggering 40% of the vote was Wolves forward Diogo Jota, who has simply been an inspired loan signing from Atletico Madrid. Jota has scored six goals for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men which is quite remarkable given that he had not played in England before the summer and is only 20. If he can continue to find the back of the net with a strike-rate of better than a goal every other game – which is also remarkable as he has often played on the left of a front three – Wolves will surely be promotion favourites this term.
