Bristol’s Tammy Abraham celebrates his goal
Fan have been voting as part of a HITC Sport poll for the striker they believe is the best in the Championship, choosing one of: Aston Villa’s Scott Hogan, Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes, Leeds United’s Chris Wood, Bristol City’s Tammy Abraham and Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle. But who took the top spot? Let’s take a look at the results…
4th. Scott Hogan (Aston Villa) & Tammy Abraham (Bristol City) – 2%
The former Brentford stirker turned Aston Villa front-man fell to the back of the queue in the HITC Sport poll, along with impressive Bristol City youngster Tammy Abraham, on loan from Chelsea. The two forwards have scored 32 goals between them this season.
3rd. Dwight Gayle (Newcastle United) – 10%
Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle
Despite being the league’s top scorer, Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle comes in at third in our HITC Sport poll, picking up just 10% of the vote. Now coming back from injury, Gayle might be able to stake himself more of a claim for the top spot amongst fans minds come the end of the season.
2nd. Chris Wood (Leeds United) – 32%
Leeds United’s Chris Wood celebrates
The big New Zealander has been instrumental in Leeds United’s charge for promotion this season, leading the line with strength and power. Despite a slow start to his career at Elland Road, Chris Wood has really come to life at Leeds United under Garry Monk.
Scoring 19 league goals this season, Chris Wood is not showing any signs of slowing down and Leeds United will do well to keep hold of the big man this summer, if they don’t manage to reach the promised land of the Premier League this summer.
1. Jordan Rhodes (Sheffield Wednesday) – 53%
Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes
Despite only having returned to the Championship in January, Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes has stormed to victory in our HITC Sport poll, scooping up a massive 53% of the vote. The former Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers man is arguably one of the best goalscorers in the Championship, but has a lot of work to do to prove himself better than the in-form Chris Wood and Dwight Gayle this season. Regardless of this however, there’s no doubt that Sheffield Wednesday has secured a real coup in bringing Rhodes to Hillsbrough.
