The Premier League has had some bad owners over the years, but thankfully a string of good ones currently reside in the division.
It can be considered the hardest thing in the world to get a solid football owner on board. Some businessmen aren’t interested in the football side of things meanwhile others refuse to take a risk, and then there are those that try and miserably fail. Thankfully, these men are shining examples of how the experiment can pay off in the best possible way. Here at HITC Sport we are looking to find the best Premier League owner, and these are the final candidates.
Leicester City (Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha)
Leicester City chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha in the stands
Two words – track record. This billionaire owner has risen to the top about as quickly as Leicester themselves have, and his fantastic work with the club has been one of the greatest stories in football ownership over the last few decades. If that wasn’t enough, Vichai actually bought every Leicester player a BMW following their Premier League triumph last season. If that isn’t the sign of a brilliant owner, then nothing is.
Liverpool (John Henry)
Liverpool owner John W. Henry with his wife Linda Pizzuti in the stands
John Henry’s takeover of Liverpool Football Club was by all means a risk. After a long period of uncertainty the Boston Red Sox owner was certainly venturing into the unknown, but by all accounts things have gone pretty well so far. From improving facilities to overseeing the extension of a new stand at Anfield, Henry is clearly very passionate about his role at the club. Plus, he seemingly has a great relationship with Jurgen Klopp which can only be a good thing.
Middlesbrough (Steve Gibson)
Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson in the stands
When your net worth rises 50% in the space of a year, you’re doing a pretty good job. Steve Gibson was born and raised in Middlesbrough so it’s no surprise to see what a great job he’s doing at the club. Having been owner for over two decades now, Gibson has been a part of some of the club’s finest moments and he’ll surely go down in Boro history as a legend. Rightly so, as things look like they are only going to get better.
Everton (Farhad Moshiri)
New Everton investor Farhad Moshiri in the stands
Moshiri’s stunning vision for Everton reportedly blew the club’s higher ups away when he came into the fold at Goodison Park, and the big thing to be positive about with the Toffees owner is the future. He has managed to maintain stability as well as look forward towards a brighter tomorrow, with his chequebook reportedly open to improve the squad, and the same cannot be said for alot of the men at the top in the Premier League. With Moshiri at the helm, success will come to the blue half of Merseyside.
Southampton (Katharina Liebherr)
General view of Southampton during training
Katharina has broken the trend of male owners in the Premier League, and thus far she’s doing a pretty solid job. Given the continued growth of Southampton both on and off the pitch, not to mention their youth system, everything is looking thoroughly stable at St Mary’s. The daughter of previous owner Markus Liebherr, who took over when he passed away in 2010, she has confirmed her commitment to the project time and time again with a number of investments, and it appears as if the only way is up for the Saints with Ralph Krueger supporting as chairman.
Bournemouth (Maxim Demim)
General view before the game
Maxim Demim is one of the more secretive figures in football, in an age where you can find out pretty much everything. Bournemouth’s mysterious owner has been at the club for five years now and in that time he has overseen the fairytale story of the Cherries. It seems odd that nobody talks about him, because Demim is a key cog in the Bournemouth machine and is a big part of their success. Either way, he’s one of the best.
