It’s been a season of ups and down for Aston Villa supporters. After recruiting strongly over the summer, hopes were high for an instant return to the Premier League under new boss Roberto Di Matteo. However, results and performances didn’t go to plan, and the Italian was soon dismissed.

Replaced with former Birmingham City, Sunderland and Hull City boss Steve Bruce, the Villans have endured some tough results, as the managerial veteran attempts to change the club from top to bottom. However, the Villans have finally started to hit some form, and could well be set for a push at promotion next season.

So which players do Aston Villa fans think have been their best performers this season? We’ve drawn up a small shortlist, but who do you think is the stand-out performer? Before you get a chance to vote, here’s a look at the contenders…

1. Jonathan Kodjia

The summer signing from Bristol City has been banging in the goals for Villa this season, through the good times and the bad. The Ivorian striker looks to be really flourishing under Steve Bruce, and will likely play a major part in a push for promotion next season.

2. James Chester

The former West Bromwich Albion defender has really improved since Steve Bruce arrived at the club, linking up with the man who managed him at Hull City. Taking the Captain’s armband, James Chester is arguably Aston Villa’s most reliable defender.

3. Mile Jedinak

Despite a tricky start to life at Villa Park, Aston Villa defender Mile Jedinak has come on leaps and bounds under Steve Bruce; thriving from the manager’s defensive and pragmatic approach. The defensive midfielder struggled to assert himself under Robert Di Matteo, but has proved just what an impact he can have in a game since Bruce’s arrival.

4. Albert Adomah

The former Middlesbrough winger has added some pace and directness to this Aston Villa side, and despite not flourishing in front of goal, the Ghanaian winger has been looking dangerous in attack for the Villans this season.

5. Conor Hourihane

Despite only joining the club in January, former Barnsley Captain Conor Hourihane has had a massive impact on this Villa side. His intricate passing, set pieces, goal threat and ability to find an assist out of nowhere have been instrumental in Steve Bruce’s sides recent turnaround, and will likely be vital to the side next season.
