Lindon Selahi’s remarkable ball-winning abilities have earned him some rather unique praise with FC Twente coach Ron Jans describing the reported Celtic target as a ‘poison dart frog’.
Maybe this is a popular expression in Holland.
Or maybe this is just another quirky turn of phrase from a man who has a history when it comes to some rather head-scratching exclamations.
Either way, Selahi should take some pride in his coach’s praise, even if he may take issue to being comparison to a deadly, diminutive amphibian.
Only one player in the whole of the Eredivisie, Willem II’s Pol Llonch, averaged more successful tackles per 90 minutes (4) than Selahi.
It is this relentless work-rate and tigerish tenacity which encouraged Celtic to make a bid for the 21-year-old’s services back in July, perhaps seeing an Albania international as the man to take Scott Brown’s place at the heart of their midfield (Expres).

“Lindon Selahi is a poison dart frog who can hunt well, but can also be dominant on the ball,” Jans tells TwenteFans, suggesting that this ankle-biting terrier of a midfielder is as useful on the ball as he is off it.
With eight yellow cards accumulated across the 2019/20 season, it’s fair to say Selahi does not always time his tackles to perfection.
Then again, there’s nothing wrong with a cynical trip or an early reducer now and again. Every title-winning side needs someone happy to do the dirty work after all.
