Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he still thinks Manchester City are the favourites to reach the Champions League semi-finals.

Spurs were playing just the second game at their brand new stadium, and they marked it with another win, having beaten Crystal Palace 2-0 there last week.

Tottenham snatched the win in the second half, with Son Heung-min driving home the only goal of the game in the second half, giving Spurs a 1-0 win to take into the second leg at the Etihad Stadium.

That doesn’t even begin to tell the tale of the game though, as we saw Sergio Aguero have a first half penalty saved by Hugo Lloris, after Danny Rose had handled Raheem Sterling’s shot.

Tottenham also saw Harry Kane go off in the second half with yet another ankle injury, and there are real fears that the England striker’s season could be over – which would of course rule him out of the second leg.

After the game, Pochettino was asked whether he thinks Tottenham are now the favourites to advance into the semi-finals of the competition – but he offered just six words on subject, suggesting that Pep Guardiola’s men are still the team in charge.

“Man City are still the favourites,” said Pochettino. After all, Spurs lost 4-1 on their last trip to the Etihad Stadium, and were beaten by City at Wembley earlier this season.

Pochettino also spoke about match-winner Son, praising him as a player who ‘ticks all the boxes’ for Tottenham, as he rattled home his 18th goal of the season.

“He deserves it, his attitude, he always smiles, he ticks all the boxes. If one player deserves to score or win prizes, it’s him,” he added.
