Pochettino’s response when asked if Danny Rose will start for Tottenham vs Liverpool

The Tottenham Hotspur full-back is now back in contention to play regularly.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters during his pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s huge clash with Liverpool on Sunday, and responded to a question asking him if Danny Rose would start the game, as quoted by popular football website Football.London.

The 27-year-old left-back made his first appearance for Tottenham since January 31st on Tuesday night, coming on as an 80th minute substitute against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

After being one of the Lilywhites’ most valuable players last term, Rose’s stock has fallen in north London, following the disparaging comments he made with regards to the club’s ambition in the transfer market, and Ben Davies’ consistent run of form during his absence.

He is now back in contention to play on a regular basis, however, and Pochettino responded to a question from a reporter asking him if he can start the game on Sunday, as quoted by Football.London:

“He’s still not ready to start. He needs to build up his fitness but we are so happy because he’s doing very well. He had the possibility to be on the bench on Tuesday. It was important for the team and to play a few minutes.”

The England international’s future with Tottenham is far from certain, but for now, with such a long and arduous campaign ahead, Spurs fans will surely be happy to have him back in and amongst the first-team setup.
