The Tottenham Hotspur ace has been linked with a move to Chelsea.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media yesterday, ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Southampton tomorrow, and responded to a question asking him whether Chelsea have made an approach to sign Fernando Llorente this month, as quoted by popular football news website Football.London.
The Spaniard joined Tottenham from Swansea City in the summer, for a fee believed to be in the region of £12 million, but has failed to establish himself for Pochettino’s side, scoring just two goals in 22 outings for the club thus far.
According to the Independent, however, Antonio Conte is keen on bringing the 32-year-old to Stamford Bridge this month, as he looks to bolster his forward ranks.
Pochettino spoke to reporters ahead of his side’s clash with Southampton tomorrow, and responded to rumours linking Llorente with an exit from the club this month, as quoted by popular football news website Football.London:
“That is a rumour. I didn’t hear anything official. Nobody said anything to me about it. That is just a rumour that I hear from the media, nothing official.”
If Tottenham were to entertain the idea of selling Llorente, they would obviously have to bring another forward into the club to act as Harry Kane’s deputy.
It is never easy to find a player of sufficient quality in January, however, so it would be no surprise to see the Spaniard stay in north London for the rest of the season.
