Mauricio Pochettino suggests that Tottenham Hotspur may not be able to sign top players until the new stadium is finished.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has suggested to The London Evening Standard that he will not be able to sign expensive players for some time.

Pochettino has suggested that Tottenham will not be able to compete for the world’s most expensive players until they have built their new stadium.

According to The London Evening Standard, Spurs will move into their new 61,000-seater stadium at the start of the 2018-19 season.

It has been reported that the cost of the whole project could exceed £750 million.

“Today the project is completely different to Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea,” Pochettino told The London Evening Standard.

“I think you can see. Sometimes it is difficult to speak about that because you or our fans can take it in a bad way, a negative way.

“But I think we need to take it in a positive way. We know we are building a new stadium and you know what can happen when you spend a lot of money.

“It is true it is not good to talk about that, I don’t like to talk about that. But we are in a different process, maybe when we finish the stadium we must change the project and maybe it is a moment to sign a player and spend a lot of money.”

“I think we are expecting to finish the stadium in one-and-a-half years and start to compete with different tools and resources,” added Pochettino.

Tottenham have done well under Pochettino, who guided them to a top-four finish in the Premier League last season.

Spurs are in the race for the Premier League title this campaign, and a top-four finish is very much within reach.

What the North London outfit need to do is make sure that they keep hold of their best players next summer.

Tottenham may not be able to sign the most expensive and the best players in the world, but they do have a squad that can compete with the best teams in the Premier League.
