Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is clearly worried about Dele Alli.

Dele Alli had hoped that he could get back on track for Spurs against Colchester in midweek.

This plan backfired when Alli put in a stinker of a performance and Spurs lost to the League Two side on penalties.

A big call on Alli was due, and manager Mauricio Pochettino made his feelings fairly clear about the midfielder at the weekend.

Alli was left out of Tottenham’s side to face Southampton and named only on the bench.

This was the type of game an in form Alli would have once thrived in. A home match against a struggling side, but Pochettino evidently felt he had better options.

He was not brought on either, with Spurs feeling he was not required.

This was partly due to game flow, with Spurs being reduced to 10 men and trying to protect a lead.

Victor Wanyama, Eric Dier and Erik Lamela were all brought on instead.

Right now Alli is clearly being seen as a luxury player, who is out of form and not a valuable contributor.

Injuries have affected his 2019 and this season he has yet to get started.

There is plenty of time for Alli to be worked back into the side, but he must earn it.

Being dropped to the bench and making him watch from the sidelines is a bit of tough love from Pochettino,

Now Alli has to react positively.
