Tottenham Hotspur could field a much-changed side in their FA Cup third round tie.
Tottenham Hotspur are in the midst of a hectic schedule, with Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie at home to AFC Wimbledon their third game in less than a week.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino is renowned for not prioritising domestic cup competitions and it will be intriguing to see what lineup he fields against the League One side at Wembley.
Erik Lamela, for instance, will be hoping to start as he looks to prove to Pochettino that he deserves to be an important member of the side having overcome his injury difficulties.
Meanwhile, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou will also be hoping for a runout. The winger has been used sparingly this season but he did find the net on his last appearance, which came against APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League last month.
Highly regarded prospect Marcus Edwards, who can play out wide or as an attacking midfielder, has much work to do in order to make the breakthrough at Tottenham given that there are several players ahead of him, but he is undoubtedly a fine talent.
It will be intriguing to see if Pochettino takes a risk and fields Lamela, Edwards and N’Koudou together against AFC Wimbledon and if he does so it could well be effective given the creativity that they each possess.
AFC Wimbledon certainly won’t be pushovers and Tottenham will have to be professional in their approach, but this game does represent an opportunity for Pochettino to experiment a little with his side.
