Tottenham Hotspur should be keeping tabs on Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse.
Tottenham Hotspur are bound to be in the market for new signings this summer, even with finances potentially being somewhat restricted due to the move to their new stadium.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men couldn’t challenge for the Premier League title this season, but a top four finish is imminent for Spurs, meaning they will return to the Champions League next term.
Pochettino will subsequently be in the market for additions over the summer, and he should be keeping close tabs on former club Southampton in case they are relegated this season.
The Saints are in a perilous position just above the Premier League relegation zone, and they risk losing the likes of Ryan Bertrand, Oriol Romeu and Mario Lemina should they go down.
However, Pochettino should be interested in one player he worked with during his time as Southampton boss, with midfielder James Ward-Prowse potentially ideal for Spurs.
Pochettino oversaw Ward-Prowse’s early development at Southampton, and the 23-year-old has impressed this season with three goals and two assists to his name, all of which have come in the last nine games.
Ward-Prowse’s versatility would be vital to Spurs, given that he can play on the right, centrally or as an attacking midfielder, meaning he can offer guile in the middle of the park if Harry Winks’ injury problems continue, whilst also being cover for Christian Eriksen higher up the pitch.
Like Eriksen, Ward-Prowse possesses great quality from dead balls, and making him cover for the Dane could be a smart move, whilst the midfielder may also fancy a reunion with Pochettino – especially if Southampton suffer relegation.
