Could Tottenham Hotspur youngster Luke McGee be sent out on loan again next season?

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told his scouts to find a new understudy for the goalkeeping position, according to The Sun on Sunday (print edition, page 65, July 9, 2017).

According to the report, Portsmouth want to sign Luke McGee on loan from Tottenham in the summer transfer window, but Pochettino wants to find a replacement before sending the 21-year-old out on loan.

Tottenham's Luke McGee

It has been reported that the Spurs boss has told his scouts to find a new understudy before he allows the Englishman to leave.

McGee is a talented and promising young goalkeeper, and spent the 2016-17 campaign on loan at Peterborough United.

It would make sense for the North London outfit to send the youngster on loan to a club in the lower divisions in England for the 2017-18 campaign.

However, if Pochettino does indeed want a replacement understudy, wouldn’t it be better to keep McGee and not find a replacement?

Hugo Lloris is the first-choice goalkeeper at Tottenham and Michel Vorm is his deputy, and that is not going to change next season.

Perhaps instead of sending McGee out on loan and then finding a new understudy, it would be better if Pochettino retains the youngster and integrates him into the first team.

After all, McGee is 21 years of age, and if he is to have a long-term future at Tottenham, then he should be training with the first team on a regular basis soon.
