Whilst scouting for new signings at the World Cup is often a dangerous game, Tottenham Hotspur may well be keeping eye on one or two players over in Russia this summer.

Mauricio Pochettino wanted signings in before the tournament kicked off, but those didn’t materialise, and Spurs have been linked with a couple of players currently attempting to impress in Russia.

Reports have linked Tottenham with a move for Boca Juniors’ Colombian international midfielder Wilmar Barrios, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that an offer may well be on the table, but Pochettino may be smart to look at one of his club teammates too.

Boca winger Cristian Pavon emerged into the Argentina squad before the World Cup, and whilst he has only made a couple of substitute appearances thus far, he has shown why he is so highly rated.

With pace and real direct running, Pavon has caught the eye as a substitute, and he may well be looking to start for Jorge Sampaoli’s side when they take on Nigeria this week, with Argentina’s starters embarrassing themselves so far.

The 23-year-old wide man – hailed by Lionel Messi, as quoted by AS – has hit seven goals and 17 assists in his last 31 games for Boca, earning links to the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and West Ham United.

Pochettino will have been keeping an eye on Argentina’s struggles, but if he has spotted Barrios flourishing with Boca, then he should also be aware of winger Pavon, and Spurs have shown a willingness to shop in Pochettino’s homeland having signed Juan Foyth from Estudiantes last summer.

Spurs appear to be in the market for another wide man this summer, and Pavon should fir the bill as a winger with real pace and an eye for goal, with the likes of Anthony Martial and Wilfried Zaha potentially out of reach this summer.
