Tottenham Hotspur are safely through tot he next round of the FA Cup after a hard-fought win over Aston Villa yesterday.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of his side’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino explained why the visitors were so hard to beat yesterday, as quoted by BBC Sport.

Tottenham ran out 2-0 winners eventually, in a result that saw them continue their fine run of form, but it took over 70 mins for the home side to finally break Villa’s resistance.

And Pochettino explained how something needed to change when the game was tied at 0-0, highlighting the visitor’s organisation as something that made it particularly difficult for his side to score, as quoted by BBC Sport:

“It’s always difficult in the FA Cup, but we played a team that had very good organisation and it was tough to break them. We had lots of possession and a lot of patience to try and build from the back. At 0-0 we changed the system a bit to try and change the game and from that we scored. I’m pleased for the players that haven’t played too much, it’s important for them to build their confidence.”

The challenge for Spurs will be to maintain their fine run of form, without being too heavily reliant on key men Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Kane was missing from action yesterday, due to the birth of his child, and Vincent Janssen once again proved that he is nowhere near the required standard to be considered as an able deputy for the 23-year-old England international.

Next up for Tottenham is a home game against West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Saturday.
