Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino has told the club’s official website that his side were ‘sad and disappointed’ after losing 4-1 to Manchester City on Saturday evening.
After seeing City win 15 games in a row, Spurs knew they faced a tough challenge attempting to finally hand Pep Guardiola a defeat – and so it proved to be the case.
Ilkay Gundogan inexplicably found himself unmarked from Leroy Sane’s early corner kick, with the German international heading home to put City in front.
Guardiola’s side then exploded into life in the final 20 minutes, as Kevin De Bruyne slammed home a second, before Raheem Sterling added two tap-ins to make it 4-0.
Christian Eriksen bagged a late consolation for Spurs, but it was a largely miserable night for Tottenham as they were the latest victims of Guardiola’s swashbuckling side.
Tottenham now sit 21 points behind Premier League leaders City, and appear to already be out of the title rice before 2017 is even over, and it’s another away defeat in a big game for Spurs.
Now, head coach Pochettino has told the club’s official website that the mood in his dressing room after the final whistle was ‘sad and disappointed’, with his players hugely frustrated after the defeat.
Pochettino added that City were simply the better side and took advantage of Tottenham’s mistakes, but vowed to look forward to the next game.
“It’s normal, they are sad and disappointed, massive frustration,” said Pochettino. “We tried to compete, we tried to win but in the end they were better and if you make some mistakes in this kind of game, you are going to lose. Yes, we’re disappointed because our expectation was different but now we look forward,” he added.
