Should Tottenham Hotspur hand Mauricio Pochettino a new contract?

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that it is up to the club and chairman Daniel Levy about giving him a new contract.

Pochettino was appointed the Tottenham manager in the summer of 2014 and has a contract with the North London out until the summer of 2021, according to Transfermarkt.com.

Spurs have progressed well under the Argentine boss and have become regular challengers for the Premier League title.

The former Southampton manager, who earns £5 million as salary at Spurs according to The Telegraph, has stated that it is up to Tottenham and chairman Levy to decide whether or not to hand him a new deal.

Pochettino told Football.London about his contract: “We are always in contact with him but it is still three year contract.

“I have three years more after this season. Today we are so focused on trying to achieve all that the club want to achieve. I think it is not important, my situation today.”

When asked if he will speak to Levy about his contract, Pochettino said: “I don’t know. It is up to him or the club to have contact with me if they are happy with my job to offer or not.

“But personally I am happy and still have three years on my contract, but of course it is his decision and the club’s decision to open discussion or not.”

New deal a no-brainer

While it would make sense not to do any negotiations over a new contract in the final weeks of the season, handing Pochettino a new deal in the summer is a no-brainer.

Spurs would not be where they are not without the Argentine, who should be rewarded for the truly brilliant job he is doing at the North London outfit.
