The Tottenham Hotspur striker has been linked with a move to Chelsea.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media today, ahead of his side’s huge clash with Manchester United tomorrow night, and responded to questions asking him whether Fernando Llorente could leave the club before the end of the transfer window, as quoted by popular football news website Football.London.
The 32-year-old has emerged as a prime target for Chelsea, according to the Evening Standard, who claim that Antonio Conte is a big fan of the Spanish striker.
Llorente joined Tottenham from Swansea City in the summer, for a fee believed to be in the region of £12 million, but has struggled to establish himself in north London, scoring just two goals in 23 outings thus far.
Pochettino addressed rumours linking the former Juventus man with an exit this month, when speaking to reporters, as quoted by popular football news website Football.London:
“That is another rumour. Fernando is our player. I don’t know nothing about that. I cannot speak about rumours. He played the last game against Newport. He’s one player in the squad, like different players. He’s in our plans.”
Spurs seem to be inching ever closer to the signing of Lucas Moura, but they would surely not even consider selling Llorente, unless they had a like-for-like replacement for the Spaniard already lined up, and after Pochettino’s comments, that does not seem to be the case.
