The young Tottenham Hotspur defender has impressed his manager over the past 12 months.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters following his side’s 4-2 friendly win over Paris Saint-Germain yesterday, and fielded questions regarding Cameron Carter-Vickers, and whether or not the American has a role to play at the club this season, as quoted by Football.London.

The Argentine has become renowned for giving youngsters opportunities in the first-team during his time in football management, especially since his appointment as Tottenham manager in 2014.

And the 19-year-old centre-back will be hoping to get his chance with the Lilywhites this season, although he will have his work cut-out with so much quality already ahead of him in the pecking order, including the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

And Pochettino spoke to reporters about the talented young defender, insisting that he can go all the way and reach the levels required to be a success in the Premier League, as quoted by Football.London:

“Cameron is so young. He has great quality and great potential. He’s a player we believe can reach the level to play in the Premier League. It’s up to him to show he deserves to be in the first team of our club.”

One thing is for sure, this season will be an incredibly long and physically punishing one, and with the Tottenham squad not exactly brimming with strength in depth, Carter-Vickers will surely be called upon at various stages throughout the campaign.

Whether he can grasp his opportunity though, remains to be seen.
