Tottenham Hotspur beat Burnley 2-1 at White Hart Lane this afternoon.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told the London Evening Standard that he felt Spurs put in a ‘good performance’ during their 2-1 win over Burnley this evening.

Spurs went into today’s game with Burnley having beaten Hull City 3-0 in midweek, with that win serving as a great response to last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Manchester United.

Many were expecting Tottenham to ease past Burnley in the same way that they did against Hull just days ago, but Sean Dyche’s Clarets put up much more of a fight at White Hart Lane.

In fact, Burnley went in front on 21 minutes as Ashley Barnes gave them a shock lead, but Dele Alli equalised for Spurs just six minutes later as the teams went in level at half time.

Burnley managed to frustrated Tottenham for much of the second half, but left back Danny Rose struck with just 20 minutes to play, scoring the winning goal after being set up by Moussa Sissoko.

With Arsenal losing at Manchester City this evening Tottenham have moved to within one point of the top four, and are chasing down their North London rivals in the race for a Champions League place.

After the game, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to the London Evening Standard, and congratulated his players after they battled through to claim the 2-1 win, admitting that he felt it was a good performance against Burnley.

“We feel very pleased because the players always believed, never lost their faith in trying to go further and trying to score,” said Pochettino. “I think it was a good performance, it’s always harder to win in the Premier League, it’s never easy. Congratulations to the players because today was a big, big performance and a big fight to get the three points,” he added.

Pochettino was also quoted by the Tottenham Hotspur Twitter account as saying that defender Toby Alderweireld missed the game due to a small problem picked up in his last training session, but the Belgian doesn’t have a major injury – which will be music to the ears of Tottenham fans this evening.
