Pochettino rates Vorm highly; Tottenham should offer new deal

Michel Vorm played for Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur against Swansea City in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told BBC Sport that Michel Vorm is an unbelievable goalkeeper.

Pochettino made the comments about Vorm following Tottenham’s 3-0 victory over Swansea City away from home at the Liberty Stadium in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper, who earns £40,000 per week as salary at Tottenham according to Spotrac.com, started the tie and played for the entire 90 minutes, and the Spurs boss was impressed.

Pochettino told BBC Sport: “It was a great save from Michel Vorm [early in the second-half] which shows he is an unbelievable keeper.”

Future at Tottenham Hotspur?

Vorm has been on the books of Tottenham since the summer of 2014 when he joined from Swansea for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Star to be worth £3.5 million.

The Dutchman’s current contract with Spurs runs out at the end of the season, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

Pochettino’s aforementioned comments clearly show that he rates the 34-year-old highly, and perhaps Spurs could hand him a new deal.

Vorm is the clear second-choice goalkeeper at Tottenham, but the former Swansea star has played well when he has been called into action.

Perhaps Spurs should offer the Dutchman a new one-year contract and let him decide on whether he wants to remain at the North London club or leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2018.
