Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he felt Davinson Sanchez was ‘very good’ against Everton on Saturday – and both he and Serge Aurier could start against Borussia Dortmund.

Spurs hammered Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon, with Harry Kane bagging a brace with a goal in each half, whilst Christian Eriksen also found the net in a convincing win.

After claiming just one point from home games against Chelsea and Burnley, Tottenham are back on track with that win over Everton – but they must now turn their attention to Champions League action.

Having finishing second in the Premier League last season, Tottenham are back in the Champions League, and have been drawn in a tough group alongside Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and APOEL Nicosia.

On Wednesday, Spurs take on German giants Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium, and will be hoping for better fortunes at the national stadium than last season, when they lost to both Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen to scupper their Champions League hopes.

Ahead of that clash, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he feels recent signing Davinson Sanchez was ‘very good’ against Everton, which has put him in contention to start against Dortmund too.

Pochettino has also been asked about the possibility of fellow new addition Serge Aurier being handed a first start, with Pochettino admitting it’s a possibility – and he is happy with the competition at right back, as he also has Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker-Peters available for selection.

“It’s important that Davinson and different players…they are great players and we are so happy, they need time to improve and adapt their characteristics to the team,” said Pochettino. “But the victory was so important against Everton, I think Davinson was very good and in the future, we will need the possibilities for the new signings to play, too.”

“Maybe, maybe. It’s a possibility [he’ll play],” he added when asked about Aurier. [And Sanchez?] Maybe. It’s fantastic to have different options to play. In the last three seasons, I listen a lot that we need to create the competition in the squad, not only have 11-12 players, we need 20 players with the possibility to fight for the starting XI. Trippier work hard and competed with Walker and both were great last season. Walker has gone and Kyle Walker-Peters is younger and needs time to develop his game and show the real quality – it’s true he played very well at Newcastle – and then Aurier, with four competitions, we need players that can compete and keep the level of the team. If we want to win, it’s important to create the competition,” he added.
