Diego Maradona was at Wembley yesterday to see Tottenham Hotspur beat Liverpool in the Premier League.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters during his post-match press conference after his side dismantled Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool yesterday, and opened up on his emotional reunion with Argentine legend Diego Maradona, as quoted by popular football news website Football.London.

Tottenham were magnificent at Wembley yesterday, as they have been for the majority of the 2017/18 campaign, as they swept aside Liverpool, eventually running out comfortable 4-1 winners.

They now find themselves in third position in the Premier League table, five points adrift of league leaders Manchester City, before they head to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on Saturday.

And Pochettino, who played with Maradona during their time together at Newell’s Old Boys, described the emotional moment when he caught up with the footballing great, as quoted by Football.London:

“Yes. I saw him before in the manager’s room. It was so emotional. It was difficult to let him go because you are in front of Maradona, you want to speak with him, stay with him and share a moment with him. It was so emotional because more than 20 years I didn’t see him, to meet again, that’s fantastic. For me he’s the best player in football and he’s massive. It was only Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris, we introduced him. No, it wasn’t in the changing room.”

Maradona must have been impressed with what he saw at Wembley yesterday, with the likes of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli all showcasing their outstanding ability.

And if any of them can go on to achieve even half of what the 56-year-old did during his time in the game, they will have extremely fulfilling careers ahead of them.
