Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-18’s lost 5-3 to Norwich City today, but one player who came out of the game with some credit was striker Reo Griffiths.

Spurs’ first team are firing on all cylinders right now, but their youngsters struggled defensively today as Adam Idam bagged a hat-trick for the Canaries in a thumping win.

He wasn’t the only player to score a hat-trick though, as Spurs forward Griffiths was a constant menace and hit three goals of his own.

The 17-year-old has now hit three hat-tricks for the Spurs under-18’s this season, taking his tally for the campaign to 19 goals in just 17 games as he continues to emerge as the next top young talent in the Spurs academy.

Whilst Griffiths only turns 18 this summer, they must be wary of their plans for him, as ESPN recently reported that Bundesliga side RB Leipzig are looking to pounce and offer Griffiths a pathway to first-team football in Germany.

That could be appealing to the teenager, but Spurs can show their belief in Griffiths by handing him a prominent role in their pre-season friendlies, first and foremost, showing that he is at least being considered around the first team.

With Spurs still searching for the ideal cover for Harry Kane, and Fernando Llorente seemingly heading for an early exit, there is scope for Spurs to promote Griffiths and give him a chance to shine this summer.

Immediately being cover for Kane would be a tough ask for an 18-year-old, but having been a sensation at youth level this season, it may be time for Tottenham to show their commitment to their in-demand teenager by featuring him in friendlies this summer.
