Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is claimed to be a big fan of the Napoli forward.
Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne
Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport reported one year ago that Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino had made Lorenzo Insigne’s signature a priority.
Insigne plays for Serie A side Napoli and has scored eight goals and provided six assists this season.
The attacker plays as a wide forward and is under contract until 2019, and Napoli have been unsuccessful in attempting to get him to extend this further so far.
The 24-year-old provided an assist at the weekend in Napoli’s 3-1 loss to Juventus.
Pochettino did not act on his desire to land Insigne, and looked to France instead for Ligue 1 winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou after an impressive season for Marseille.
N’Koudou has failed to replicate his form for Spurs, and it is fair to say Insigne may have been a better bet.
He has been capped by Italy, and featured at Euro 2016 last summer, after netting 12 league goals and registering 10 assists.
Corriere dello Sport reported last year Insigne could cost 20 million Euros (£17 million), although far higher valuations have since been touted, he would be a more exciting addition than Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha.
Tottenham could face competition from North London rivals Arsenal, with ESPN reporting this week that Insigne featured high on their list of potential summer signings.
Perhaps this could be just what Pochettino needs to press him into action to sign the Italian.
