The Tottenham Hotspur right-back picked up an injury against Juventus.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s impressive 2-0 friendly win over Juventus yesterday, and fielded questions regarding concerns over Kieran Trippier’s fitness ahead of the new season, as quoted by popular football news website Football.London.

The Tottenham right-back suffered an ankle injury during the game against the Italian giants yesterday, and it remains unclear as to whether he will have recovered in time to face Newcastle United in the Premier League opener next week.

And Pochettino responded to reporters when asked whether he regretted the decision not to substitute the 26-year-old when he initially picked up a knock during yesterday’s match, as quoted by Football.London:

“No because it was an accident. The first action only was a minor problem and then the second action was to his ankle. It was an accident.”

A huge concern for Spurs fans must be the fact that their club have not signed anyone at all this summer, and they could now find themselves really exposed in the right-back area, if Tripper does not return to action sooner rather than later.

And with just one week left until the new Premier League campaign kicks off, questions will surely be asked of Daniel Levy and Pochettino’s lack of transfer activity so far this summer.
