Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media after his side’s superb 5-2 win over Southampton in the Premier League yesterday, and highlighted something that could be a potentially massive problem for Harry Kane, as quoted by popular football news website Football.London.

The 24-year-old striker has been sensational for Tottenham this season, scoring 24 goals in 24 outings in all competitions, and he will finish the calendar year as Europe’s top goalscorer, ahead of the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Kane has now fully established himself as one of Europe’s most feared front-men, and unfortunately for Spurs fans, his fine form has not gone unnoticed, with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United both believed to be closely monitoring his situation in north London.

He is still contracted to Tottenham until the summer of 2022, however, so Daniel Levy and co still very much hold all of the cards.

Pochettino told reporters how happy he is with Kane, but issued the England international hitman with a warning, as quoted by Football.London:

Harry Kane of Tottenham celebrates scoring to make it 1-0 during the pre-season match between Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus at Wembley Stadium on August 5, 2017 in London, England.

“If you achieve something and think ‘Ok, now if I need to run 10m I’ll only run nine’, to try to cheat yourself, that is a massive problem. For me the most important thing is to keep the same mentality, the same determination. The secret is to work hard. There’s no other secret. It’s to work hard every day.”

Kane will be looking to carry his fine form on into the new year, and with rock-bottom Swansea City next up on the agenda, it would take a brave man to bet against the 24-year-old starting 2018 in the same fashion that he finished 2017.
